I spent a week at Mr Ken and Mrs Cheryl's lodge in 2016 with my daughter and wife. Eden killed a beautiful buck, watched turkeys fly up to roost, had does and small bucks under our stand on more than one occasion. It is the way to go to have an unforgettable experience. I would not take a million dollars for the look on Eden's face when her buck hit the ground. Mr Ken brought Jana with him to retrieve the deer. A GREAT experience. I will make this an annual trip.
So, for any first-timers, here's my checklist that gave this a Five Star: 1. Safety 2. Cleanliness/Orderliness 3. Modem facilities 4. Great dinners cooked by Ken's better half 5. You shoot your deer and get involved as much as you want after that 6. A totally Wholesome Experience
I just got my daughter a bow this summer and when she tells me she's ready for a deer, it will be at Midwest Woodlots and I'd even let here come down by herself, although I wouldn't want to miss out on her excitement.
I told Ken I had never deer hunted and was looking for someone to teach me from Ground Zero. Ken agreed and taught me everything from how to evaluate a property for deer, their habitat and habits, and where to position for maximum deer traffic. Oh, I need to say that I wanted to take my first deer with a bow (it was time, after 4 years shooting at the range) and "Yes", I got my deer on my third session in a tree stand - I'm glad I didn't get it on my first, as I would have missed out on the beauty of Midwest Woodlots; it's a great place to separate from life's routine and just sit and listen to Creation.
I can’t say enough about this place! They accommodated my family and treated us like family. They are the real deal and really know their stuff. A special thanks to Ken, Cheryl, and Danny you are all amazing people. And an even bigger thanks for the coolest Indiana Swamp Buck ever! We will definitely be back!
Ken and his staff at Midwest Woodlots will go out of there way to make sure you have a successful hunt, his wife is a great cook and is very friendly. If your looking for a place to hunt with a family atmosphere you should call Ken.
This trip was awesome overall. He (ken) was very helpful and really put effort into where he was putting you for the day. Told you everyday the forecast, wind, and start and stopping time. Amazing food as well! Will definitely be coming back!!
